Wanden White Suffolk Stud was founded in September 2000. Our main breeding aim was to produce deep barrel rams, with good muscle and growth rate and low fat with shoulder sets.

After the first two years, we soon realised we had to change a little from our first aims. With clients, in a variety of conditions and selling lambs off at different weights and ages, we decided to concentrate on red meat yield. By using raw scan figures we have selected ewes and rams to produce good growth and high muscle with good shoulder sets. With high growth lambs fat looks after itself. By doing this rams cans be slightly + for fat, which will help finish lambs earlier. This year was proof our lambs were 56.5 kilograms at 88 days – a pleasing result.

At Wanden, we try to maintain 250 – 300 stud ewes. Balanced breeding strategies have been set in place to achieve these goals. Modern technology has been utilized – Artificial Insemination to introduce new and useful genetics and Lamb Plan for performance assessment.  Using the best ram lambs (7 Months old) and lambing down our ewes, as young as 12 months, our genetic progress is enhanced. Over the past three years, we have realized above 162% live lambs.

Participation in health and quality assurance programs such as Ovine Bruccellosis and Ovine Johns Disease and Foot rot free flock, Market Assurance Programs these test and programs are keenly sought. The White Suffolk Breed has many advantages, great shoulder sets for ease of lambing, very clean points no grass seeds, very fertile multiple births. They have proven to be great terminal sire’s, in recent times they are challenging the traditional maternal sire’s.
